Robert Henry Harrison

Studied at the West of England College of Art, Bristol where he achieved a degree in Art and Design in illustration, photography and design. After a postgraduate course at Cardiff University he taught art at a comprehensive school in Hertfordshire before becoming a full time painter.

Harrison paints the dramatic coastline of South and West Wales, mountainous regions like the Brecon Beacons and local areas of beauty such as the Gower. His scenes feature twilight and dark skies of intense blues which complement the earth colours of sienna, umber and yellow ochres typical of such areas as the Brecon Beacons and Carmarthen Fans. He employs the fast drying alkyd oil paints which he uses in transparent layers as well as impasto. His work used to be representational but more recently his paintings have included abstract elements
