Born in Maesycwmmer, Mid Glamorgan, Chris Griffin graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1975 and has exhibited regularly across Wales since the early 1990s.
The formal qualities of the South Wales landscape continue to provide him with a disparate and dynamic range of shapes, colours and textures that are the starting point for his paintings. Often using rich and emotional colour, the paintings develop into lyrical expressions of the landscape, or equally they may take its formal qualities and develop them into dynamic abstract statements. His concern is more with the mood and the presence of places, shown through colour and form.
